Lester Lake, an escape artist known as Marvelo, dubbed Colon, Michigan the Magic Capital of the World way back in 1935. The name has kind of stuck. Almost eight decades later, magicians world-wide know about our sleepy little village.
On April 11 and 12, 2014, the Abbott/Watson Ring 386 is pleased to host the 45th annual Michigan Magic Day in Colon. It will be the FIRST time Michigan Magic Day has been brought to Colon, Michigan. We intend to make it special.
The traditional Night Before Party will be held at the American Legion in downtown Colon. Every magician who has been to our village knows the Legion — and probably knows it well. Those walls are no stranger to magic. If by chance you haven’t been to Colon or the Legion the map below should make it easy to find.
Saturday morning opens bright and early at the Colon High School on Dallas Street. We’ve rented the auditorium, again certainly no stranger to magic, for the contests, lectures, and public show to be conducted throughout the day. Just down the hall from the most famous stage in magic, past the bathrooms and around the corner, is the school cafeteria, which will henceforth be known as the Dealer Room. Don’t worry; we’ll have a few signs in the halls to direct everyone to their desired location.
Be sure to check our Lodging page for more maps and directions. We’re making arrangements for rooms in both Three Rivers (more convenient for those traveling 131) and Coldwater (just 15 miles from door to door). Apparently, the Bill Watson Hotel & Resort on State Street is already booked solid.
